Ms. Hristov's Story
Hello. My name is Wintre. I'm 38 years old, originally from the midwest. Early in life I noticed that people, including family, friends and strangers would divulge things that seemed to alleviate them after doing so. Not all was based on various forms abuse or addictions; as I was also informed of infidelities, sexual appetites, hidden monies, secrets and so on.

I never minded listening to each story, though I wondered what it was that signaled to others that they could tell me something that seemed unknown. Then, over time, I realized it didn't matter what it was and that I felt purposeful in being the person in whom others felt that they could openly communicate. I came to realize that this was a part of my life and that it felt natural to help others by listening to them.

Meanwhile, I was on my own journey of sorting out the dysfunction of my upbringing with a submissive, religious mother and a narcissistic father.

I honed in on the silver lining of growing up with a clear blueprint of what I did not want in life or a relationship. This fueled an already innate desire to explore how other people lived and functioned throughout our world.

So, I traveled.

Firstly moving to Los Angeles, California where I worked as an EMT (Emergency Medical Technician) for 5 years and then becoming certified to teach English as a foreign language, which led me to the countries of China, Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia.

The one thing that seemed to always stand out as the common denominator, was that it seemed that nearly everyone I got to know, had been raised by the hand of dysfunction.

It became nearly overwhelming to see that it was “normal” for some form of abuse to be a major part of people's childhood and subsequent lives. Thinking about this would nearly feel overwhelming, but I noticed something else... Everyone that I spoke with, was obviously aware that something wasn't right.

Even after being born into it and knowing nothing else, the act of people talking to me was a sign that change was wanted and needed.

This included the simple but difficult act of confessing about the things that ultimately didn't sit right with them. I felt like being the person on the receiving end of the confession was a necessary position to help implement the change to incrementally reduce abuse, addiction and dysfunction being a common way of life.

Upon returning to the states, I found myself frustrated at how my work day seemed overly hectic and I felt unappreciated. Sure, my service was necessary for the job to take place, but I felt that my energy and effort was essentially futile and unfulfilling.

That's when I discovered this course.

Upon embarking on the journey of facing my own dysfunction in myself, was I able to see clearly why I process things the way I do and why those that perpetuate dysfunction, do so. This brought relief, as I was not alone in wanting to end the cycle of abuse and wanting a different outcome for those who come after me.

My parents may or may not have known of their own problematic behaviors, so they were unable to change them. And even if they were aware, perhaps they didn't have the courage to do so. This gave me hope; as attending the class shone light upon others who did have the courage to recognize that a change was needed and that they were not going to continue the cycle.

And now I'm here, in a position to help others as I too was helped, wanting to continue to extend an ear and helping hand to those who have a desire to heal and grow.

I know first hand, it can be difficult. I encourage those to have the awareness, insight and will to make things better for themselves. I'm here to help.
